TIA Applauds Attention to Broadband Included in Sen. Democratic Infrastructure Blueprint
Arlington, VA (January 24, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today applauded the infrastructure “Blueprint” offered by Senate Democrats for its inclusion of $20 billion to expand broadband.
TIA Board Chairman and Interim CEO David Heard commented:
“Given the enormous industry investment in today’s high speed Internet networks, it would be easy to assume that the hard work of building out is behind us. Nothing could be further from the truth. Without ubiquitous and affordable broadband access for all Americans, our nation will fall short of tapping into its full economic potential.
“We applaud Senate Democrats for their call to invest $20 billion into America’s broadband infrastructure. With similar calls for infrastructure spending being made by President Trump and Republican leaders, we believe there is a real opportunity for bi-partisan action in the near future.
“Policymakers on both sides of the aisle recognize that network investments are essential to advancing the digital economy, bridging economic and social gaps, creating new high-paying domestic jobs, and advancing America’s global innovation leadership.
